Our Black Dog Theatre Creation group in Camden and East-Ham have joined forces to create a special project exploring how to break down the fourth wall to strengthen our confidence....asking the question - how can we talk to a stranger?

We've been exploring techniques including improvisation, immersive theatre and characterization. Our performance of Alice through the looking glass is being performed for FREE at the East Ham Library, Manor Park Library and the St Pancras Library this September.

Getting creative with mask and prop making

Our Bury St Edmunds group got creative recently designing and making their own props and our new dragons head mask. All of the props will be used in our Reluctant Dragon show. Some of the props included our dragon’s head, a giant teapot, a toilet, a knights shield and scrolls… oh and a giant time clock and some wildflowers and butterflies. Big Thank you to Jacob Anderson for the inspiration.

My Boy Danny collaboration with Artist CK Norman

We’re really excited to announce that artist CK Norman will be staging a production of “My boy Danny” which will be toured around Suffolk and Essex. CK is thrilled to be bringing a new interpretation to the role of Ange. Tickets for local schools and community groups will be free to help champion our theatre for all initiative.

 

And me collaboration with artist Beth Davey

We're really excited to announce that we will working with local artist Bethany Davey on developing her piece "And me". The play is an emotional piece using verbatim Theatre.

Story Box Kelvedon Suitcase of memories...

Our Story Box Community Theatre Project has been exploring memories developing positive ways of preserving and bringing memories to life. We've had so much fun creating short role-play scenes, recording stories from the beach in the style of postcards and even creating a short play. All of which will be shared on our YouTube channel soon. 

 

Voices Unhoused Project – creating a platform for marginalised voices

We’re delighted to be working with the Museum of Homelessness in creating a special community heritage project. We’re looking forward to our visit to the museum in June.

 

Proud to be returning

Following on from our successful production at the Courtyard Theatre, London last year; Proud will be returning as part of a development project supported by the Arts Council for a production in February 2027 LGBTQ+ Heritage month.

 

Women in War Norwich Heritage Project going well

Our Black Dog Norwich group recently visited both the Norfolk Records Office and the Norwich Castle Museum as part of our Women in War Heritage Project. The project has received funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Both visits were incredibly useful in our learning. We were introduced to gaining the most from museum visits, accessing the archives and using artefacts to learn about the past. We worked with their staff and began our research on the role which women played as nurses and ambulance drivers during the First World War.

 

Our work at the Norfolk Records Office also allowed us to learn more about the story of local nurse Edith Cavell and several other local nurses by gaining access to their diaries, letters and postcards home.

 

We have started putting together a special free learning resource, our storyboard to create a short film about Edith Cavell and a special theatrical performance sharing what we have learnt to be performed at the Norwich Castle Museum in October.
